SIMPLE MATH - a refresher course

Re-Run/Re-Vision from September 2008
If it seems I am repeating myself and posts, I am....
~
What more can be said about (?):
  • ALL MEN & WOMEN & CHILDREN ARE CREATED EQUAL
  • TAXATION WITHOUT EQUALITY IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL
  • EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW
  • SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE
~
~
One blogger elsewhere thought that my own tax protest was "not a good image for proponents of same-sex marriage". He elaborates,
"There's a difference between what's theoretically justifiable in the abstract, and what's actually effective for achieving your goals. If your goal is simply expressing your own righteousness, you may have found a way to do that. But if same-sex marriage is really such a momentous issue -- and I agree that it is -- then the goal should be to actually get same-sex marriage enacted. The answer isn't negativity; it's positivity".
To all who may agree - You do not understand the motivation AT ALL behind my own little "tax protest" [ irony inserted 1.3.09 ]
(and you're not the first).
Only when YOUR family & children have experienced REAL harm from discrimination, the kind that devastates your financial security, traumatizes your children, and destroys your psychological health and ability to work, only then will you comprehend how you would NOT give a rat's patootie about any perceived "good image" concerning your tax protest. You'd likely react as many of us have and simply refuse to comply IN ANY WAY with the powers that discriminate and harm your family (and these 'powers that be' do it for
No Rational, Civil Reason).

This ain't no fashion show.

This ain't no P.R. move.

" This Ain't No Foolin' Around... "

This IS a way to live by my own morals and self-respect and not sanction this outrageous legal inequity. Does ANYONE care that children and families and communities are harmed by marriage inequality?
~
Well, my tax protest is
NOT about holding my breath
Until I get my way.
~
It IS about a complete refusal to submit to my own
Government's Cruel, Inhuman Treatment of Myself,
my Husband (a Vietnam Vet), and
ALL other LGBT FAMILIES
AND THEIR CHILDREN
While simultaneously taxing our income.
~
SAME rights & freedoms = SAME taxes.
~
This is NOT a quibble about property taxes, or being anti-war, or having any issue with a particular government POLICY. It is about the across-the-board immoral discrimination against MY FAMILY - OUR FAMILY & CHILDREN - something which many suggest is the PILLAR OF CIVILIZATION ITSELF.
~
"Well, except for the gays; their
Families and children DO NOT COUNT."
- the reality of DOMA -
~
~
America - LOOK YOURSELVES IN THE FACE
YOU ALLOW THIS LEGAL INJUSTICE
YOU ARE SILENT
YOU THINK YOU ARE NOT AFFECTED
(YOU ARE WRONG)
ALL WHILE WE SUFFER
~
If you believe in the interdependence of ALL life
(and if you do not you scare me),
then this inhuman and inhumane treatment affects ALL OF US, since every LGBTIQ-XYZ is linked to a heterosexual somewhere on this planet. Family Trees Grow.
~
FAMILY. FAMILY. FAMILY.
~
I am still waiting for heterosexuals to justify why we should pay the same taxes for less civil rights.

We are not ALL silent.

I do understand your frustration.

But I am encouraged by the progress that has been made in our lifetime. Legally protecting and ensuring civil and human rights is the LAST step in the process. We're almost there.

Of course there's going to be a last gasp from the opposition, there always is. But don't lose heart. We're closer now than ever before.

Hi! This is good stuff for me. And, here's why. Historically, I can't say that I've had any passion for Gay Marriage. If I had the occasion to vote to support it, I would vote to support, but I just haven't been able to muster any passion for it. I don't want Gays to be denied the right to marry not because I'm outraged, but because I just don't care. It doesn't affect me one way or the other. But, I've had passion for other things that don't affect me before, so I didn't understand this lack of passion.

Reading your story helps me understand and helps me have passion for this issue.

So, thanks!

But, I can't read your blog because the white and black contrast makes my eyes all wonky. I'd love it if you'd change the contrast a bit!

Thanks,

John,

This is Jesse Wisnewski with the Family Policy Council of WV. Here is the link for a fuller response to the comment you made a couple of weeks back.

I understand if you don't want to share this link on your website. It is my desire to dialouge with you on this important matter.

Talk with you soon (http://familyvoice.wordpress.com/2008/11/04/settling-the-issue-same-sex-marriage-is-not-a-civil-right/)

With regards,

Jesse Wisnewski

Sorry Jesse, but there is no need for a "dialogue" when it comes to my ENTITLEMENT to civil marriage. There just isn't!

Kind of like a warden asking a prisoner to discuss why the prisoner would ever want or need freedom. Insane. There is NOT an equal standing legally, so how in the world can the side WITH rights understand the side WITHOUT rights?

Seriously - Pay my taxes. You have civil rights. I will not pay taxes for SUB-AMERICAN rights.

John,

Thanks for sharing my comment. John, I would really appreicate it if you would read my post and reply to the content. This way you will understand how I came to my conclusion.

If there is another way to understanding Civil Right's different than my own, then by all means, I am open to discuss.

It is still not registering with you yet. Our lives are harmed by Marriage inequality. Our childrren are hurt.

I sincerely and with all of my heart DO NOT CARE what your "understanding" of civil rights or any "conclusions"; IT FEELS LIKE HATE, so do not expect ANY gay person to pay taxes to your established theocracy.
