Q's may individually respond to our government's crimes against our family by withholding tax in LEGAL ways or "not-so-much" ways. *
~
* I use "not-so-much" since the law-of-the-land is a SICK JOKE to any American living on the flip side of equality. Click "Respect U.S. Law?!" for my thoughts on society's "laws".

How to Stop Paying Federal Income Tax LEGALLY
- from THE PICKET LINE:
This “how-to” guide is designed to introduce you to a way to stop paying federal income tax in the United States, legally and by-the-book, by keeping your taxable income low and by qualifying for certain credits. More [here]

You may fear the boogieman from the I.R.S., but you certainly do NOT have to comply in any way with this abusive, persecuting government or its I.R.S. henchmen (and henchwomen) [nod to FZ].

Pay ALL Taxes.
I personally feel ABSOLUTELY ZERO responsibility to this country today. I complied with U.S. law my entire life. I followed the rules, I paid my taxes each year (I think I deserve a REFUND for 1983-2004), but too many governmental walls have repeatedly prevented me from doing what I was put on this planet to do - Empower Young Children to Make Music.

So I'm out, U.S. taxpayers.

Quick Update for New Readers:
Please realize, I used to sit on the floor with 3-4 year old children at the Bellingham Preschool of the Arts and sing, chant, move, and play in developmentally-appropriate ways. I used to facilitate a 3-year-old's beat awareness & rhythmic development, stimulate their imagination through possibilities, and nurture their overall self-expression as an artist. I also used to teach piano to school-aged children at the adjacent Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth, and have considered music teaching to be my life's work for the past 20 years. For 15 years I've been immersed in piano pedagogy and early-childhood development to sharpen and broaden my skills; I took the responsibility of teaching children aged 3-9 very seriously. I was a "Music & Movement Specialist", but ANYONE who interacts with this age group knows the importance of this work; it is our future. ~
I used to play the piano at church every Sunday and performed piano music that (hopefully) inspired a Christ-like consciousness and enhanced the overall worship experience for the congregation. I loved sharing music at a local elementary school, hospital, and food bank (all in Kirkland), esp. Christmas piano music. I used to be a contributing, valued member of society. I used to be self-sufficient and NOT living on YOUR tax dollars; I used to get paid between $60-120/hr. for my musical performance and teaching skills. Before I was unable to work in 2004-2005, I was making the most money of my adult life (and contributing more to the federal tax base). I was able to commit to a Sunday church gig, maintain a filled piano studio, teach preschool music & movement, accompany a few choirs, and toss in a bass gig ever now and then. I was also ABLE TO volunteer in my community in ways that I can no longer do. I was far from "perfect", but I thought I was doing everything "right" as a U.S. citizen and taxpayer.

I used to be able to work.

I used to NOT be a Raving Acti-pist who sits here, blogs to cope with P.T.S.D., and surely sounds one sssSSSsnap away from LoOnEy-ToOnEy LAND. ~

UPDATE ~ March 19th, 2009 -
To my regular readers, "hi". All 3 of you. Pardon this stream-of-babble addendum, but I only want to do this once and get it out and be done.
~
I'm not well. I haven't been since November, worse since January (closing my studio), and since my first attempt at disability and denial - much worse. It's a HOPE thing.
~
When I started blogging I never planned on how THE PROP 8 CRIME would affect me as a private music teacher. You see, a music studio is a sacred space of sorts, particularly when teaching the 3-7 age group. Children need SAFETY first, and I'm not merely referring to avoiding sharp objects. A preschool music environment needs to be SAFE, inviting, and comfortable, with an atmosphere of LOVE, support, nurture, and encouragement. Parents, usually Moms (but in the past 10 years more Dads), enter the studio with their young child. We sit on the floor. We sing. We dance. As a "teacher", but I prefer to call it "facilitator", I lead and follow as we experience beat, rhythm, movement, shape, color, and sound. When done right - it can be magical.
~
But this space also needs to be SAFE for the teacher, and on November 6th, 2008, after entering my music studio, after months of SCREAMING "Stop This Madness" over PROP 8, I felt paralyzed by fear-pain when I realized this REALITY - Some of the children's parents that I interacted with on a spiritual/musical level could possibly vote AGAINST my family. A teacher in AMERICA should never, EVER have to ask that kind of question.
~
~
Why Am I The Only One Here Screaming "THIS IS WRONG". Not "let's take a vote on it"-wrong but rather "take to the streets and set police cars on fire"-wrong.

REVOLT AGAINST ABUSE
My point? I'm letting this blog sit for a while. I'm still torn between separating my own story from it and leaving it as a Cyber Cheerleader for EQUALITY TAX REVOLT, or leaving it as is. I do think my own story is important, but arguing "divorce equality" isn't as strong as a sell, despite the outrageous abuses the lack of protection insures. But either way, thinking about or discussing Equality right now feels more harmful than helpful. Perhaps obsessively following a battle that affected my own family seems extreme, but WOULD YOU WANNA SWITCH SHOES, HETEROS? Have YOU experinced a state voting against YOUR family? STOP THE EXCUSES! You are shitting on ALL Queer Americans with ALL of the inequalities - Employment - Housing - Hate Crimes - Marriage - Adoption - Military - are you kidding me?!?
YOU EXPECT TAX COMPLIANCE?
FUCK YOU.
I may be dragged away in a straitjacket screaming this QUESTION (click on it) but I cannot understand WHY we allowed this vote-to-take-away-rights process in America in the first place.
IT FEELS INHUMAN.
ANTI-America, at best.
HETEROS - Again - FUCK YOU. Not one of you has stepped forward enough to make any difference, despite that we are your sons, mothers, uncles, friends, and co-workers. Enjoy your rights, but PAY OUR TAXES.
QUEERS - FUCK (most of) YOU ALSO. Except for Charles Merrill and a few others who GET IT. Too many of you are so privileged you cannot fathom the kind of discrimination that harms and kills other lives. Too many of you are sheep-like to government, paying taxes out of fear of losing precious possessions, forgeting that GOVERNMENT IS RESPONSIBLE TO YOU - and our government IS SHITTING on our family. And our children. Don't forget the children. You simply CANNOT tell me that a heterosexual man in the EXACT SAME legal shoes would not REVOLT, probably violently, to what the government does to us AS POLICY. AS LAW. We could revolt non-violently through tax revolt. But here's why:
So PAY YOUR TAXES, or TAX REVOLT.
Sure, I depend on tax dollars to survive now,
but I don't think YOU (the Queers) should pay a dime of it.
Things are dire now financially and may get worse sooner than later, so logging on the internet may become another one of those things we (BOB & I) decide to live without - at least at home. SIMPLE is best, whether it's by choice, or not, or both. Voluntary Simplicity
Take care, fellow bloggers and blog readers. I may check in to update something, or a comment may drive me out, but I'm leaving all posts on the main page and letting this blog SIT for a while.
NOW GO REVOLT ...
YOU HAVE TO DO THAT YOURSELF!

Harsh Reality Hits Home With Very Bad Timing - It is 9:20 PM on Thursday evening and I've just learned from our Pastor that Bob fell down and hit his head at choir practice and is now being treated at the hospital. He is a traumatic brain injury survivor....as in had to re-learned how to walk and talk....so this is something to take very seriously. I cannot get there so I have to wait until his church brings him home, hopefully in 1-2 hours. I love my Bob; you met him here - What About Bob? . [Bob returned home safe and sound this time, THANK GOD, but this experience just made PAINFULLY CLEAR how un-equal we are in the eyes of the law. My anger is still very much intact.]
~
The sick reality for ANY queer couple is simultaneously dealing with what life gives us - all of us - while ALSO adding on the legal difficulties - at these horribly emotional, challenging times. THAT IS EVIL
Even as I try to NOT give in to fear and panic in general, having the EXTRA REALITY of homelessness if I did indeed lose Bob right now doesn't help matters.
~
America, we just want to LIVE OUR OWN LIVES and be left the hell alone, but YOUR GODDAMN LAWS are SO GODDAMN HATEFUL to our families that it is impossible to give a f*ck what happens to this GODDAMN COUNTRY.
PAY YOUR TAXES, AMERICA!
YOU DESERVE WHAT
YOU ARE PAYING FOR.

Do you have a drivers license?
Was getting a drivers license a right, or did you have to qualify in some way?
I still have a drivers license, but I doubt I'll ever renew.
Not until I'm included in federal law.
I had a right to APPLY for a drivers license, just as I deserve the RIGHT to apply for a civil marriage license. Seeing that the "requirement" is barely above having 2 people who aren't too drunk to stand up for the ceremony in Vegas, you sooo can't suggest a Justice of the Peace hitching is any "holy-sactimonious union"......esp. given the level of white trash ALONE that has enjoyed access to civil marriage.
We simply demand access to the same legal document ALL couples get when they want to legally commit to the rights and responsibilities of marriage.
I think you are confused about what a right is.
I don't have the right to marry. How can you have a right when someone can refuse that right? Rights are property of individuals.
How can a right be taken away? (Do you lose your so called right to marry when you get married? of course you do.)
If marriage is a white trash, ceremony for drunks, why do you care? If the institution is as fundamentally flawed as you claim, why stake a claim on it at all?
I think you are confused about what the constitution guarantees; EQUAL protection under the law.
America cannot dole out marriage certificates LIKE CANDY to some couples while denying the same rights AND protections to others....not without serious consequences, like an underground tax revolt against the I.R.S.
My point was not how flawed some marriages are, my point was how there is hardly any "sanctity" in many hetero marriages.
But here's the thing, BLOGGER-REG GLOB, I don't care anymore what ANYBODY "thinks" or "believes"....those thoughts and beliefs have caused enough suffering already in U.S. Law. No, I prefer to simply allow EVERYONE ELSE to pay my taxes, since I owe this country NOTHING. Heterosexuals may carry the entire tax burden of our country until they become less selfish about CIVIL marriage rights - the LGBT community owes them and the I.R.S nothing.
Again, you are confusing two words. Protection and right are not interchangable.
Marriage isn't a protection or a right. And while you have a right to protection, changing the meaning of marriage is not the protection you have the right to.
Clearly, in our secular society, you have legal rights. Call them civil rights. So invent a civil union. Don't redefine a word so you feel equal.
Incedently, about half of the country doesn't pay income taxes anyway. And good luck avoiding retail and gasoline taxes.
You seriously need to educate yourself about the specific rights AND protections that federal marriage provides the Exalted Heterosexual Union.
Yes - go figure. We want those rights & protections. Yes, our families (with or without children) also deserve those same rights & protections.
No one is changing the definition of marriage (we're in the 21st century now) - Marriage is the union of 2 souls.
I have not owned a car since 1989, and in general do not support commercial retail stores nor any "corporate" entities. There is both an underground economy and underground "goods & services". Often the quality of all things are better; buy local.
"No one is changing the definition of marriage (we're in the 21st century now) - Marriage is the union of 2 souls"
Are you a former IRS worker? Your quote, now famous all over the internet proves that you are redefining marriage.
we are in the 21st century now? So before the 21st century, What? marriage was between 2 souls of the opposite sex?
"Are you a former IRS worker?"
NO.
"Your quote, now famous all over the internet proves that you are redefining marriage." Nope, I ain't.
"We are in the 21st century now? So before the 21st century, What? marriage was between 2 souls of the opposite sex?"
Here's the neat thing.
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU "THINK" or "BELIEVE" ANYMORE.
PAY OUR TAXES.
Wondering quietly in this little box if ANY Q American feels 1 iota of responsibility to an EVIL federal government.
WAKE UP CALL - AMERICA!
It is EVIL to treat OUR family (with or without children) differently than "heterosexually-identified" led families in law. EVIL.
