"Amendments that restrict civil marriage rights of same-sex couples – such as Proposition 8 that recently passed in California – have led to higher levels of stress and anxiety among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adults, as well as among their families of origin".
Yes, even those who love us are stressing from PROP 8 and other insults.....with good reason. No family exists in a vacuum; did voters and constitution experts forget about:
The Family Tree?
Inter-connectedness?
Inter-dependence?
Quotes from participants in the study:
~
"Initiatives lead to constant painful reminders that I'm seen as less than human by our government and public laws,”
~
“The irrationality of anti-GLBT initiatives and movements is baffling, painful and scary:
We are not who they say we are.”
~
"The marriage amendment supporters were using the Bible like a brick on us. They are beating us with it.”
~
Marriage laws were put in place many years ago in order to PROTECT individuals and their families; if they were not necessary for human couples THEY WOULD NOT EXIST (for the heterosexual couples).
Americans want to deny us what they
DEEM ESSENTIAL.
~
I personally have a HUGE problem with that.

Fascinating that I am typing this on the eve of my social security disability hearing, which starts in about 15 hours. When I filed 2 years ago I never dreamed I'd be pushed over that proverbial cliff exactly one month before my hearing, pushed over the edge by a popular vote to
1 HATE - - or - - 1 NOT HATE
Some California families.
~
WHY are we allowing the
State of California to
Psychologically-abuse its children?
~
Where are the
Child Psychologists and
Child Advocates?

Here is a new article I found through
~
from the weblog:
Beyond Homophobia
A weblog about sexual orientation, prejudice, science, and policy
by Gregory Herek
~
Nota Bene - Here's an excerpt from the article above that resonated:
~
"But one of her important findings was that a substantial segment of the sample reported many symptoms that are commonly associated with depression, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (P.T.S.D.), and they perceived that these symptoms were a direct result of having lived through the months of antigay campaigning."
~
"Thus, the data are consistent with the conclusion that antigay campaigns not only take away individuals’ rights, but are also harmful to the mental health of the gay, lesbian, and bisexual people who live through them."
Yes, I was obsessively following PROP 8 for months, and why not?
~
There was a vote on civil marriage in CA, a legal document that would have protected me in 2004 from the situations that caused my P.T.S.D. to develop in the first place, not to mention the devastating property loss and legal helplessness. So yeah, I don't hear "rights"...I feel "pain", as in the MANY consequences of this particular legal inequity. I also feel the stories of Laurel Hester and her beloved Stacie, Lois Marrero and her beloved Mickie, Sam and his husband from Oklahoma, and the Q-led families I know in Bellingham and Seattle. I can feel the heartbreak of Tim Coco, who has been separated from his spouse due to federal discrimination, or the struggles of Jake's family, who deserve much more than the nightmare they've endured due to inequality. ~
I can sympathize with a child's feeling of NOT being safe in the world; these ballot initiatives are EVIL. These are NOT mere "propositions" on toll roads or building heights - or a 20 cent tax on plastic bags - they are about a FAMILY'S EQUALITY and the ability to PROTECT LOVED ONES.
~
This state-by-state approach to equality (hide the kids) IS TOTAL BULLSH*T and you know it, America. You know it! The Supreme Court and Federal Government need to step in and start protecting my community from being persecuted by the majority, because allowing this "process" for 30 more years is inhuman, cruel, and 100% unnecessary.
We could simply have EQUALITY -
NOW.
~
If one member of a family is not equal,
No Family Is Equal.
~
I advocate a National Equality Tax Revolt until we are ALL EQUAL.

I was told these disability hearings usually take 2-3 months before the decision is issued. I haven't even been able to write about it yet here. All I can say is ---- It Was Not Fun ---- I think about 2 hours. OK...enough reminiscing. [long pause] Nope, can't go there yet.

Strange government. Welfare ended up denying my disability clain, but Social Security approved it (SSI). It's a little more money now, so that's cool.
But I would have much prefered an EQUAL CHANCE with EQUAL PROTECTION, so I could have continued doing my life's work - Nurturing young children on the art of self-expression, musical discovery, and imagination through music at the piano.

And here we go again......a popular vote to
1 HATE or 1 NOT HATE
Some Washington families.
~
WHY are we allowing the
State of Washington to
Psychologically-abuse its children?
Now can you say "Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder", kiddies?
